Museo del Fin del Mundo

The Museo del Fin del Mundo is located in the Argentine city ​​of Ushuaia in the province of Tierra del Fuego .

The first plans for this museum date back to 1905. In 1973 the “Association for the Promotion of Understanding and Protection of the Territorial Heritage” was founded. In 1976 the name was replaced by the letters "HANIS", which stands for the terms history, anthropology, nature, island, south . In 1979 the government of Tierra del Fuego recognized the association as a non-profit organization.

The museum is housed in the former building of the National Bank ( Banco de la Nación Argentina ), near the port. It was opened in May 1979.

The exhibition rooms are divided into the areas of ethnology , an old shop, an exhibition about the prison of Ushuaia, the birds of Tierra del Fuego, and a library on the subject of Tierra del Fuego.
