Zehra Çırak (*  1960 in Istanbul , Turkey ) is a German poet of Turkish descent.

Life

Çırak came to Germany at the age of three and has lived in Berlin since 1982. After first publications in anthologies and magazines, Flugfänger , the first volume of poetry , appeared in 1987 . In 1993 Çırak was awarded the Friedrich-Hölderlin-Förderpreis der Stadt Bad Homburg and in 2001 the Adelbert-von-Chamisso-Preis , whose sponsorship award she had already received in 1989.

Çırak deals in her lyrical work with general human-existential and private breaks and transitions, with love poems and poetological-language-critical poems forming a focus. Many of the poems arose from the joint collaboration with the object artist Jürgen Walter, with whom she also performed jointly at home and abroad. Reception and criticism see Çırak's work in close connection with German-language intercultural literature . With the poem Foreign Wings on Your Own Shoulder , Çırak is represented in Harald Hartung 's anthology Century Memory - German Poetry in the Twentieth Century .
