History and exhibitions

In 1983, the Bislich local history museum was set up in the building on Dorfstrasse. A permanent exhibition that deals with Bislich local history and partly the history of the Lower Rhine in general plays a central role for the local history museum. The focus of the permanent exhibition is the history of the village in the 19th and 20th centuries. The museum of local history includes a natural history exhibition in which various local animal species, including birds in particular, are themed. The Rhine-Deich-Museum, established in 2000, has dyke construction and flood protection as a central theme, along with Rhine shipping and historical Rhine fishing. The exhibition includes a replica of the Lüttinger boy , the original of which is a Roman bronze statue that was found in the Rhine in 1858 by fishermen from Bislich and Lüttingen . In 2006 the museum was expanded to include the brick museum. The history of tile production in the Lower Rhine and the transition from thatched to tile roofs are documented there. A replica of a historic bakery has stood in the museum's courtyard area since 1987. This bakehouse is functional and is used on certain occasions.

The Kock forge was opened in May 2014 as a branch of the museum. It originated at the end of the 18th century and was run by the Kock family as a farrier and wagon smithy from 1812. At the beginning of the 1960s, operations were stopped. The forge was restored by volunteers for use by the museum and then placed under monument protection. As part of their use by the museum, demonstrations take place once a month in the forge.
