History of the house

The working group Dorfchronik, which designed a number of buildings in Sankt Peter-Ording with information signs, names the following stations in the history of the building and use of the house:

  • In 1752 the house was built after a fire in Dorfstrasse and was initially used as a brewery for thin beer . Later there was also a pub and a small bakery was run by the house owner's wife.
  • In 1817 the house briefly belonged to the mayor of Tönning , who is said to have gained prosperity during the continental blockade in the Napoleonic Wars.
  • In 1818 a grocer was operated in the house.
  • In 1915 Andreas Jensen bought the house. It now served as a bank paying agent. The owner also operated a beach chair rental.
  • In 1951 Jensen's widow bequeathed the house to the district of Eiderstedt , who built a museum there.
  • In 1970 the house and the museum were transferred to the North Friesland Foundation .
  • In 1998 the house and museum were transferred to the municipality of Sankt Peter-Ording.

History of the collection

At the end of 1912 the collection went into the care of the district administration. During the Second World War the collection suffered losses and a. by theft.
