The open-air museum of folk architecture in Kouřim (Czech Muzeum lidových staveb v Kouřimi ), also called Skanzen Kouřim , in Kouřim ( Czech Republic ) is a part of the Regional Museum of Kolín .

history

The museum was founded in 1972 and opened in 1976. An old orchard served as the site. The collection area was initially limited to the region around the museum: Posázaví , center Povltaví and Podblanická . After the opening, the concept was changed. An open-air museum was planned for the entire territory of the Czech Republic , a part of what was then Czechoslovakia . The aim was to save folk architecture buildings from all over the Czech Republic so that they could be built next to each other on the museum grounds and thus enable a comparison between the different architectural styles .

Around 1990 the working area was again concentrated on Bohemia (excluding Moravia and Silesia ). In 1996 the museum complex was declared a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. After 1992, the expansion of the museum stalled due to legal disputes with the original landowners. These could only be concluded through a contract in 2012.

Another concept was then developed to bring the architectural heritage closer to life in the Czech Republic from the early modern period to the early 20th century - including the social and regional features. The existing eighteen buildings - often improperly rebuilt from today's perspective - are being renovated and around 30 additional buildings are being added. The project is financed 85 percent from EU subsidies. Due to the renovation work, the museum will be closed to visitors in 2015 and is expected to reopen in March 2016.
