The Museum of Perception ( MUWA for short ) is a museum in Graz that was opened in 1996. It deals with works from all areas of art, music, architecture, philosophy and literature that deal with phenomena of perception .

history

In the Friedrichgasse on the eastern edge of the Graz Augarten, a drip bath was built in 1904 according to plans by the municipal building department and opened on January 16, 1905. This Tröpferlbad was built as a central building in the shape of an octagon around the dominating round fireplace. Due to the improvement in living conditions in the second half of the 20th century, the demand and thus the number of visitors decreased. A search was made for new content with new functions for the public building.

After preliminary work in containers in the city park, the museum founded by Werner Wolf was able to start operating in this striking building on the upper floors in 1996 after conversion and renovation by architect Kocher in collaboration with the Federal Monuments Office.

In the basement, a smaller bathtub has been preserved, which was expanded to include a Samadhi bath (see also floating ) in 1999 as part of the EU project elmas . The design by the architect Anna Popelka was the first prize in a competition.
