history

It was founded on January 17, 1894 by the Art, Historical, and Scientific Association of Vancouver . On April 15th, the first permanent exhibition space opened, the upper floor of the Carnegie Library. Over the years, the museum has collected thousands of items that had been purchased by residents of the city. These included an Egyptian mummy , taxidermies from animals from the region, items of daily use from the late 19th and 20th centuries, and travel diaries. In 1967 the museum moved into the new building, which was erected on the occasion of the hundredth anniversary of the founding of the state.
