Musicians Without Borders eV is a non-profit association that was founded in March 2008 by music students from the Hamburg University of Music and Theater (HfMT).
Goals and structure
Musicians without borders founded a worldwide network of creative music projects with the aim of bringing people closer to one another and giving them access to music regardless of their living situation. The association arranges musicians and donations in kind who support the projects in their work. Through the musical work in socially deprived areas, the project offers alternatives to a criminal career and social offside.
So far there are projects in Guayaquil (founding project in Ecuador), Playas (Ecuador), Zhagal (Ecuador), Olón (Ecuador), Galapagos (Ecuador), Kolkata (India), Accra (Ghana), Trench Town (Jamaica) and in Hamburg's Osdorfer Born.
Musicians Without Borders is supported by the Hamburg University of Music and Theater and a network of active musicians.
history
Magdalena Abrams laid the foundation stone for the founding project in Guayaquil, Ecuador in 2005, after giving music lessons for the umbrella organization of the 'Mi Cometa' project for a year. Since 2007, several weeks of work have been held there every year by groups, which have been supplemented by musical volunteer services since 2010.
