Muscle belly

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The muscle belly (lat. Venter ) is the swelling of a skeletal muscle between the origin and insertion . A muscle belly is particularly prominent in spindle-shaped muscles. A few skeletal muscles have two muscle bellies, namely when an intermediate tendon between the origin and insertion leads to the formation of two muscle bellies connected in series. Two-bellied muscles in humans are the shoulder-hyoid bone muscle ( Musculus omohyoideus ) and the double-bellied muscle ( Musculus digastricus ).
