As myoglobinuria excretion is myoglobin in the urine , respectively.
The cause are all disease processes or injuries to the striated and cardiac muscles that lead to increased myoglobin levels in the blood ( myoglobinemia ). Due to its low molecular weight of 17,100 Daltons , myoglobin is rapidly excreted via the kidneys and is therefore a very sensitive parameter of myoglobinemia.
As a result of pronounced myoglobinuria (e.g. in crush syndrome ) acute kidney failure ( crush kidney ) can occur. Conversely, especially in advanced renal insufficiency, increased myoglobin concentration in the blood occurs more quickly.
Special forms
- idiopathic paroxysmal myoglobinuria
- paralytic myoglobinuria (in humans and animals)
- Paralytic myoglobinuria is a symptom of Haff's disease
- paralytic myoglobinuria in horses; see cross crate
