The Mysore Zoo (officially: Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens ) is a zoo near the Palace of Mysore in southern India. On 99 hectares it is home to around 1100 animals of around 160 species.

It was founded in 1892 by Maharaja Jayachamaraja Wodeyar and renamed Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens in 1909 in honor of its founder. The German botanist and garden architect Gustav Hermann Krumbiegel was consulted when planning the facility . The original area of ​​4.4 hectares was expanded in several steps to today's 32.5 hectares. Then there is the Karanji Lake with 31.1 hectares. The zoo opened to the public in 1902, transferred to the Department of Parks and Gardens of the Mysore State Government in 1948 , the Forest Department in 1972, and the Zoo Authority of Karnataka in 1979 .
