NANTEN telescope

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The NANTEN telescope is a radio telescope for wavelengths in the millimeter and submillimeter range. Since 2004 it has been located at an altitude of 4800 m on the Pampa La Bola in Chile .

The NANTEN telescope with a reflector diameter of 4 m has been at the Las Campanas Observatory in Chile since 1995 . In 2004 it was fitted with a more precise main reflector for the sub-millimeter range, a new sub-reflector and a new drive and relocated to the greater height of the Pampa La Bola near the location of the Atacama Large Millimeter Array . Since then it has also been known as the NANTEN2 telescope. The observation range covers frequencies between 115 and 880 GHz, i.e. H. Wavelengths between 2800 and 340 μm.

Institutes from Japan , South Korea , Germany and Chile are involved in NANTEN2 .
