NASIM is software for processing the essential tasks of deterministic hydrology in a model. It was developed at RWTH Aachen University with the aim of abandoning the traditional use of different short, medium or long-term models.

NASIM is used to create flood protection concepts, to estimate the effect of measures to reduce runoff, to determine the formation of new groundwater or to simulate the real-time control of a flood protection system.

It also provides communication with geographic information systems , which has meanwhile become indispensable for rainfall and runoff models. The catchment areas are intersected with land use and soil data and processed further in NASIM.

The calculation kernel, at that time still based on Fortran , was converted to C ++ .

NASIM is used by state and federal authorities, water authorities, water associations, engineering offices, universities and technical colleges.
