NSU Ural chainsaw

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The NSU Ural manual chainsaw type 401/100 is a two-man chainsaw manufactured by NSU Werk Aktiengesellschaft in Neckarsulm . The addition to the name Ural came about because NSU developed the chainsaw together with Ural, an Austrian chain saw manufacturer, and it was expected that it would improve sales opportunities in Eastern Europe. The construction period was from 1937 to 1943.

The engine was a two-cylinder two-stroke - Boxer engine cm³ with a displacement of 396, 63 mm bore, 64 mm stroke and a rated speed of 2900 min -1 and a maximum speed of 3500 min -1 . He had a continuous output of 6 HP (4.4 kW); the maximum output was 8 hp (5.9 kW). The two-stroke mixture of 1:25 (oil: petrol) was generated by a membrane carburetor from Graetzin, the carburetor not having a float. This has the advantage that the saw could be used in any position. The fuel consumption was approx. 3.4 l per operating hour.

The total weight was 42.5 kg, the saw had to be operated by two people. Starting was not easy either, the reversing starter had no rope but a metal chain. The engine was very loud due to the lack of a silencer.

The ignition system was supplied by Bosch ; it was the high-voltage ignition system with a stationary magnet and snapper (type FM 1x2 R 7). The spark plugs also came from Bosch (type 175 T 1). The maximum cutting width was given as 100 cm, but in practice cutting widths of 130 cm were also possible.
