The Beddgelert (after the place of the same name ) was a tank locomotive of the North Wales Narrow Gauge Railways (NWNGR) with the wheel arrangement C2 'for a track width of 597 mm. It was built by Hunslet in 1878 with the serial number 206 .

The coupling axles were stored in an outer frame and were driven by cranks; the steam was distributed via an internal Stephenson control . The standing tank was located between the third coupling axle and the bogie , which resulted in a relatively large overall wheelbase. Although significantly larger, the locomotive had some features in common with the " Quarry Hunslets " used in the region's quarries, including the cross-section of the saddle tank and the inclined arrangement of the external cylinders.

The Beddgelert was the most powerful locomotive of the NWNGR and was mainly used for freight trains on the "Bryngwyn branch", a branch line to which some slate quarries were connected.

In 1894 the boiler of the locomotive was inclined as part of an overhaul - in contrast to many rack-and-pinion locomotives with the higher end at the smoke chamber - so that the first section of the branch, which was steep and in a tight curve, could be driven with the bogie ahead and the fire box anyway was covered with sufficient water.

By 1906 the locomotive was so worn out that it was no longer worth repairing. Their duties were taken over a little later by the 1'C1 ' Russell locomotive .

A half-size replica of the Beddgelert for 311 mm gauge is used on the Fairbourne Railway .
