To this earth

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

After this earth is the title of a three-part canon , which became known in particular through the workers and peace movement during the Cold War . The German text is by Gerd Kern, the melody was composed by Don McLean .

Reception and text variants

The song is based on the four-part canon By the Waters of Babylon by the English composer Philip Hayes .

Don McLean rewrote this into a three-part canon. This was translated into a German version by Gerd Kern and is also known as the "peace canon" or "song against the neutron bomb". The music educational event “ Class! We sing ”, among other things, used this canon to get children excited about singing. The song belongs to the repertoire of many choirs. The German text can have slightly different content.

To this earth

After this earth there would be none that would be a dwelling for a person.
Therefore respect people and ensure that they remain so!
To whom would she be a monument when she quietly drives the sun?

After this earth there would be none that is called a man's future '.
So respect people and make sure that they remain so!
Who would she still be home to when she quietly drives the sun?

To this earth English By the Waters of Babylon

After this earth there would be none that would be a dwelling for a person.
That is why people respect and strive to keep them that way!
To whom would she be a monument when she quietly drives the sun?

By the waters, the waters, of Babylon.
We lay down and wept, and wept, for thee Zion.
We remember, thee remember, thee remember, thee Zion.
