The night's rest is in Germany a concept of sound pollution control . The legal term “night's sleep” is regulated in some federal emission protection laws. During the night's sleep, activities that are likely to disturb the night's sleep are prohibited. The night's rest in Germany generally lasts from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. About the general protection of sleep addition, in accordance with § 7 para. 1 32. BImSchV (Equipment and Machinery Noise Control Ordinance) the operation of detail listed in the Annex to Regulation machines 20:00 to 7:00 inadmissible. Particularly noisy devices such as grass trimmers or brush cutters may only be operated from 9:00 a.m. according to Section 7 Paragraph 1 No. 2 of the Ordinance.

Exceptions to the night's rest, e.g. B. for industrial companies, are regulated by the Federal Immission Control Act (BImSchG). In many cases, the sixth administrative regulation for the Federal Immission Control Act ( Technical Instructions for Protection against Noise ) in the current version must be applied.

The night time period 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. is also used in the European directive on environmental noise . The Bavarian Beer Garden Ordinance results in a different night time from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.

In Switzerland, night rest is regulated at cantonal or communal level. It is valid from 10 p.m. to 6 or 7 a.m. During summer time , it applies from 11 p.m. to 6 or 7 a.m.
