The Nakajima Type 91 was a Japanese fighter aircraft made by the manufacturer Nakajima Hikōki , which was used from 1931 to 1937. About 450 were built between 1931 and 1934, 12 of which were delivered to China. The air forces of the Manchurian Empire were also equipped with it.

technology

The Heeres-Type 91 was a single-seater, braced, high - wing metal construction with a Bristol-Jupiter star engine manufactured under license by Nakajima . The landing gear was rigid and the engine was clad with a Townend ring . The aircraft was preceded by a series of prototypes based on the Nakajima NC.

After initial stability and center of gravity problems, delivery began at the end of 1931. A total of 420 aircraft of the basic type were manufactured, 100 of them under license from Ishikawajima .

The type 91-1 had a 540 hp Jupiter engine, the last 21 machines of the type 91-2 delivered were equipped with a Nakajima Kotobuki with 580 hp.

Mission history

The type was only used for a short time and was replaced by the Type 95 ( Kawasaki Ki-10 ) as early as 1935 .

The Ki-10 soon had to give way to the new type 97 monoplane ( Nakajima Ki-27 ). In the Second Sino-Japanese War , Type 91 aircraft were still used on both sides.
