Nanzen-ji

The Nanzen-ji ( jap. 南禅寺 , previously Zenrin-ji , jap. 禅林 寺 ), also called Zuiryusan Nanzen-ji, is one of the most famous temples (main temple of the Nanzen school) of Rinzai - Zen and is located at the foot of the eastern one Kyoto Hills . The building built by Kian Soen (1269-1313), a student of the Zen master Mugaku Sogen (1226-1286), under the auspices of the Kameyama tennō became one of the most influential Rinzai temples in the Gozan system.

Today a popular tourist magnet, the Nanzen-ji is especially famous for its traditional garden.
