Nasalance

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nasalance refers to the relative nasal sound energy, which is determined by means of nasometry , in which the nasal sound signal is related to the oral sound.

formula

Nasalanz = (nasal / oral + nasal) ∗ 100

relevance

Some studies have shown that nasalance values correlate with the perceived nasal quality of speech. In this way, the nasalance value can describe the proportion of nasal sound in the overall sound signal and provide information on therapy progress (for example in patients with cleft lip and palate). In some regions of Germany, normal values for nasalance have been determined.
