National Certificate of Educational Achievement
The National Certificate of Educational Achievement ( NCEA ) is a state certificate of educational attainment in New Zealand . The system, which was introduced gradually from 2002, now has three different qualification levels , NCEA Levels 1 to 3 .
Qualification system
The qualification system consists of three different qualification levels , with NCEA Level 1 being the lowest and NCEA Level 3 being the highest. 80 credits must be achieved for each qualification level.
- NCEA Level 1 - 80 credits , regardless of the level, including credits in reading, writing and arithmetic,
- NCEA Level 2 - 60 credits at Level 2 or higher, plus 20 credits at Level 1 or higher,
- NCEA Level 3 - 60 credits at Level 3 or higher, plus 20 credits at Level 2 or higher.
High school students can reach NCEA Level 1 from year 11 , NCEA Level 2 from year 12 and NCEA Level 3 in year 13 . The respective qualifications achieved are awarded for each subject, whereby a student may have achieved different qualifications in the various subjects after graduating from school. In this way, a pupil can form focal points depending on which profession he would like to pursue later or in which area he would like to study later.
A qualification level can be achieved in three degrees:
- Achievement , i.e. passed,
- Achievement with Merit - Passed with distinction and
- Achievement with Excellence - Passed with excellent performance,
where Not Achieved stands for qualification not achieved .
