The New Zealand Qualifications Authority ( NZQA ) ( Māori : Mana Tohu Mātauranga o Aotearoa ) is a Crown Entity (special state company as an authority) of the New Zealand state.

tasks

Established in 1989 with the Education Act 1989 , the agency is responsible for the administration and quality assurance of school, university and professional qualifications and degrees in New Zealand.

The NZQA administers all qualifications acquired in secondary schools in New Zealand and divides them into three different levels via the National Certificate of Educational Achievement ( NCEA ) and defines professional and educational qualifications via six different so-called certificate levels , with level 1 being the lowest and the level 6 being the highest level of qualification. The agency also maintains a list of foreign qualifications and educational institutions that have already been recognized in New Zealand. If a qualification obtained outside New Zealand is not in the authority's database, the authority will conduct a fee-based examination of the qualification and recognize a qualification comparable to the New Zealand quality standard.

As of 2014, the NZQA worked as an example with 488 schools from New Zealand and some Pacific states and managed almost 1.35 million qualification data from around 255,000 students.

organization structure

The NZQA is divided into three business areas:

  • Assessment - appraisal, classification of qualifications and degrees

covers.
