National Electric Power Authority

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The National Electric Power Authority ( NEPA for short ) is a company that manages electricity consumption in Nigeria . The country's electricity capacity is 4000 megawatts , which NEPA is trying to use. In order to achieve this goal, the electricity industry in Nigeria is to be completely commercialized and, accordingly, privatized. There should be no direct support from the government to finance or subsidize this industry.

history

In the early 1990s, the Niger Dam Authorities (NDA) and the Electricity Cooperation merged to form the Electricity Cooperation of Nigeria (ECN) . Immediately after the civil war in Nigeria, the company's management decided to change the name to National Electric Power Authority .

background

The public company established a far-reaching national strategy to promote efforts aimed at improving the relationships between human activities and the environment. This strategy is intended to reveal and present information relating to the environment so that the Federal Agency can make decisions and the public can be involved in the decision-making process.

Trivia

Due to the unreliability of the power supply, NEPA has established itself in Nigerian parlance as the epitome of a power failure: “ There is NEPA ”. In that case it's an acronym for: “ Never Expect Power Anytime ”.
