Schizocoelie

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Schizocoelie is a term from embryology . In the case of the protostomes , the term describes the emergence of the third germinal layer ( mesoderm ), which forms the coelom . Individual cells migrate into the space between the ectoderm and the endoderm , which leads to the formation of the secondary body cavity .

The name comes from the Greek words schizein (to split, separate) and koilos (hollow).
