National Electrical Manufacturers Association
The National Electrical Manufacturers Association ( NEMA ) is an American association that was founded on September 1, 1926 when the Associated Manufacturers of Electrical Supplies and the Electric Power Club merged. NEMA is based in Rosslyn, Virginia .
NEMA represents the interests of the US electrical engineering industry. A number of standards related to electrical engineering are under its control . NEMA has 445 members (as of October 2013).
One subsection is the Medical Imaging & Technology Alliance (MITA), in which all manufacturers of imaging or image processing systems in the medical field are brought together. The widespread open DICOM standard for digital imaging in medicine is also under their control .
The German equivalent of NEMA is the Central Association of the Electrical and Electronics Industry (ZVEI).
