Nationality conflict

A nationality conflict or nationality struggle is a conflict between different peoples or nationalities within a state .

Through the political and religious suppression of individual nationalities, these conflicts can escalate into violent clashes up to civil war or terrorist activities.

Examples: the former Yugoslavia , the Caucasus region , the Kurdish conflict and the like. a. in Turkey and Iraq , the conflict between Hutu and Tutsi in Rwanda , the civil wars in Sudan , Congo , Afghanistan etc.

The cause of numerous nationality conflicts is the demarcation in the formation of the nation states through colonialism . On the one hand, borders were drawn through strategic considerations through the settlement areas of individual nationalities (example: Kurds ). On the other hand, linguistically, culturally and / or religiously completely different peoples were brought together in a state that is not perceived as a common state, but economic interests prevent peaceful separation (example: Sudan ).
