Amanatsu tree

Amanatsu ( Japanese 甘 夏 ), also known as natsu mikan ( 甘 夏 蜜柑 ) and daidai mikan ( 橙 蜜柑 ), is a yellowish-orange citrus fruit . It is about the size and shape of a flattened orange.

It is grown commercially almost exclusively in southern Japan, namely in Kumamoto Prefecture , where a variety of products such as jam and wine are made from it.

The name amanatsu means “sweet summer” in Japanese and probably comes from the fact that the fruit ripens quite late. The Amanatu tree is considered to be a hybrid of the citrus plants grapefruit ( Citrus × aurantium ) and tangerine ( C. reticulata ). The scientific name of such a hybrid is Citrus × aurantium , as synonymous is Citrus natsudaidai Hayata specified.
