From a Natterung one speaks in Mycology at an irregular drawing of the mushroom stem or hat, which shows itself in a zigzag-like, horizontally extending around the stem and so to the skin bands drawings of snakes recalls. It usually arises by tearing open the velum or the upper layers of the skin, which then remain on the surface as darker residues.
This property is an important characteristic when identifying mushrooms.
