Buchenberg Nature Park

The Buchenberg Nature Park is located in the Eisenwurzen of the Mostviertel , in southwest Lower Austria and is one of 22 nature parks that can be found in Lower Austria. It is entirely located in the municipality of Waidhofen an der Ybbs . Compared to the other Austrian nature parks, this one is quite small, it includes a wildlife and pet park. In this part of the park, access is only possible for an entrance fee and during certain opening times. The rest of the nature park is freely accessible.

Natural sights

The nature park lies at the transition area between the foothills of the Alps and the foothills of the Alps, at the foot of the 790 meter high Buchenberg. In addition to open pastures, the area is characterized by mixed forests. Typical forest inhabitants such as badgers, foxes, lynxes, wild cats and owls are kept in the animal enclosures.

  • Freely accessible “Water” theme path, high path around the Buchenberg, path up to the summit of the Buchenberg with the upper Buchenberg chapel at the summit.
  • Wildlife and domestic animals park with, among other things, large birds (owls), lynx and wild cat enclosures, a pet area with classic farm animals such as donkeys, small horses, sheep and a deer enclosure. A special feature are the walkable bird enclosures, in which you can experience the animals up close without being cordoned off. In the pet area there are also animals "to touch".
