Owls
As fogies different bird species and species from the family of authentics owl called (Strigidae). The differentiation of the terms "owl" and "kauz" is a special feature of the German language and has no equivalent in the sense of a zoological system. Owls are generally rather elongated, slender species of birds, while the owls are stocky, large-headed.
Occasionally the members of the genus Strix are meant by “owls” in the narrower sense .
"Owls" and "Owls"
Both names have an onomatopoeic origin referring to the plaintive and howling calls of these birds. Both names include large and small species as well as those with and without feather ears. Thus, the German division does not correspond to that in the French language, in which chouette denotes owls without feather ears and hibou ear owls.
In addition to the external appearance, the evaluative attributes are also different: owls are considered thoughtful and wise, owls, on the other hand, are clumsy, eccentric and solitary. Based on this, solitary people are sometimes also referred to as "oddball" or "oddball". In popular superstition, owls are also mistaken for bad luck and messengers of death.
