Panevėžys Nature School

The Panevėžys Nature School (lit. Panevėžio gamtos mokykla ) is a science school in Panevėžys in Lithuania . Since 2009 she has been participating in the nature conservation schools program of the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE).

The school building is the only Lithuanian wooden two-storey building with a mansard and a tower , according to the house construction studies (based on the report of the AB experts “Vilniaus komprojektas”, 1997) . In 2008, it was added to the list of cultural objects of immovable cultural heritage .

history

In 1925, Česlovas Petraškevičius , the owner of the settlement at that time, got permission to build the main building of the settlement. The year of construction 1934 is mentioned in the inventory documents from 1957. According to this documentation, other structures in the settlement were built between 1935 and 1938, including the ice store that has been preserved to this day . German soldiers were quartered here during the Second World War . Česlovas Petraškevičius' family emigrated to Germany and later to the USA. In the building there was the Panevėžys Girls' High School and a military hospital . After the nationalization there was a boys colony, a children's home and further education institutions. In 1966 the Panevėžys Young Scientists Station was established . From 1991 there was the Panevėžys Young Scientists Center here. It has been a school ( Panevėžio gamtos mokykla ) since 2005 .
