history

The forerunner of the newspaper was the LSDSP party organ "Cīņa" (The Struggle) , which appeared in 1904 . In 1919, Cīņa was taken over by the Latvian Communist Party and remained the main party organ until 1990. With Latvian independence in 1990, the newspaper's employees terminated cooperation with the party and founded a "Neatkarīga Cīņa" (independent struggle) with new editors. This would later become the NRA. Today's editor-in-chief is Anita Daukšte.
