Nehemiah ben Hushiel was head of Jerusalem in 614.
Life
There is almost no historically reliable information about the person of Nehemiah, his origin is unclear.
Nehemiah was involved in the conquest of Jerusalem in 614 by the Persian Sassanids . He then became head of the "Council of the Righteous" that ruled the city. In 617, the Persians in Jerusalem came to an understanding with the Christian population, which the Jews opposed. The Persians then deployed troops against the Jews. The further fate of Nehemiah is unknown. According to the book of Zerubbabel , in which he is extolled as a messianic figure, he was killed by the Persians along with other leading Jews.
