Nelson Mandela statue (London)

The former South African President Nelson Mandela was honored with a memorial in Parliament Square in London while he was still alive . It was inaugurated on August 29, 2007. Previously, Westminster City Council refused to display it in Trafalgar Square . In addition to Nelson Mandela, Prime Minister Gordon Brown , London Mayor Ken Livingstone , the widow of anti-apartheid activist Donald Woods and director and activist Richard Attenborough attended the inauguration .

The sculptor is Ian Walters .
