Neonatal Small Left Colon Syndrome

The Neonatal Small Left Colon Syndrome (NSLCS) is a childhood disease . It is a very rare functional disorder in newborns with an undersized colon in the descending thigh (descending colon) with an abrupt change in caliber at the level of the left bend ( flexura coli sinistra ). There is an association with maternal diabetes mellitus in about 50% .

The first description is from 1974 by WS Davis et al. He had found an increased number of immature ganglion cells .

Usually the diagnostic enema is also therapeutic. The colon caliber usually returns to normal within a few weeks.
