New year's paper of the GGG

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The New Year's Gazette of the GGG has been published annually since 1821 by the Society for the Good and Non-Profit Basel (GGG), each dealing with a topic from the history of Basel .

In 1819 the GGG decided to publish a New Year's paper for Basel's (male) youth based on the example of other cantons. The first volume with the life story of GGG founder Isaak Iselin appeared in 1821 . With the exception of the years 1833/34, which were overshadowed by the separation of the cantons, a new volume was published every year. In the course of the 19th century, the New Years Papers developed into a scientifically sound publication. This prompted the commission entrusted with the publication to delete the addition "for Basel's youth" in 1872. Well-known historians such as Jacob Burckhardt and Rudolf Wackernagel are among the authors of the New Year's Papers . Today the GGG New Year's Gazette is published by Schwabe Verlag .
