New American Bible

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The New American Bible is the Catholic translation of the Bible used in liturgical use in the United States. Unlike the Douay-Rheims Bible, which was predominantly used in the English-speaking Catholic Church until the middle of the 20th century, it was not translated from the Latin Vulgate , but from the original biblical languages. After it was first published in 1970, it has undergone several revisions.

The New American Bible should not be confused with the New American Standard Bible , another Bible translation from the same period.
