description

The New Cumnock Old Church is located on Castlehill Street in the center of New Cumnock. A year on a lintel shows the year of construction as 1659. Sometimes the year 1657 is mentioned in the literature. With the establishment of Martyrs Parish Church in the 1830s, the building became obsolete and is now only preserved as a ruin. The building has a T-shaped floor plan and features elements of Gothic architecture . Although the roof of the church has collapsed, the outer walls are almost completely preserved. Both rectangular and pointed arch windows are installed. Today the interior is overgrown with grass. Existing tombstones show dates back to the first half of the 19th century and reflect the period of use of the church.
