The Nights were founded in 1991 and started playing in the AFL in the same season. At first there was no classic founder. The franchise was installed by the AFL and run by the operators of the Louisiana Superdome . In July 1991, a group led by ex-NFL pro Mike McBath took over the franchise for $ 500,000.
