The New Texas Giant in Six Flags Over Texas amusement park ( Arlington , Texas , USA ) is a roller coaster manufactured by Dinn Corporation , which opened as the Texas Giant on March 17, 1990 . It was designed by Curtis D. Summers. When it opened, it was the tallest wooden roller coaster in the world. On November 1st, 2009 it was closed and converted into the 1st roller coaster by the new company Rocky Mountain Construction . The rails, which were originally made of wood, were replaced by steel ones. This transformed it from a wooden roller coaster into a hybrid steel roller coaster with a wooden structure. Another change is the slope of the first descent , which has been increased from 53 ° to 79 °. It reopened on April 22, 2011 under the name New Texas Giant .
Trains
The New Texas Giant owns three trains from the manufacturer Gerstlauer Amusement Rides GmbH with six cars each. Four people (two rows of two people) can be seated in each car. The passengers must be at least 1.22 m tall to be allowed to ride. Head restraints and continuously adjustable hydraulic T-lap bars are used as restraint systems .
Incidents
On July 19, 2013, a fatal incident occurred during the first major descent. According to eyewitness reports, a lap bar opened and a woman fell out of the car.
