Route description

New York State Route 146B began at the intersection of New York State Route 146 and Saratoga County Route 88 in Rexford, a hamlet in Clifton Park. The road led eastward, passed a country club on the south side and followed the Mohawk River as Riverview Road , the extension of County Route 88. As it went, State Route 146B bended southeast and ended at the intersection with Vischers Ferry Road and Grooms Road .

history

The first settlements in what is now the Town of Clifton Park emerged in the 17th century. By 1723 the area had around 20 white residents and was named Canastigione . In 1783 Eldert Fischer set up a ferry across the Mohawk River, which became known as Vischer's Ferry . The hamlet at the northwest end of the former NY 146B takes its name from Rexford Flat's , founded by Edward Rexford. Finally, Clifton Park was incorporated as Clifton in 1828 and became the last town to be established in Saratoga County.

The route was not yet a State Route when the State Routes were renumbered in 1930 . In 1936, when most of the state routes were in place, Riverview Road had not yet been surrendered to the state. In 1947, however, the NY 146B line was already in service. In 1964, the state retired the NY 146B route. Eventually the route was designated as County Route 91 and is part of the Mohawk Towpath Scenic Byway .
