Nga Phe Kyaung Monastery

The Nga Phe Kyaung Monastery is a Buddhist monastery complex in Inle Lake in Myanmar .

description

The monastery stands in the north of the city of Ywama on stilts in Inle Lake and can only be reached by boat. It is the largest and oldest wooden monastery in the Inle region, was built in 1850 and has many old Buddha images in different styles: Bagan , Shan , Ava , Tibetan .

The heart of the monastery is a spacious portico. There the statues are housed in richly decorated shrines or stand on altars with elaborate wood carvings.

The monastery is famous for its trained cats; the monks taught them to jump through little rings like in a circus.

Outside the monastery there is a wonderful view of the farms with tomato fields and the mountains in the background.
