Niccolò de 'Rossi

Niccolò de 'Rossi (* around 1290 in Treviso ; † after 1348) was an Italian poet and lawyer.

Life

From a noble family, studied law in Bologna, where he received his doctorate in 1317 . From 1318 he taught in Treviso. He represented an ecclesiastical Guelfan policy and held various political offices in Treviso. In 1339 he went to the papal court in Avignon, and later as a diplomat in Venice after Treviso had joined the Venetian Republic in 1339. In 1348 it is attested as Canonoco Castellano of the Church of Sant'Apollinare, later signs of life are missing.

Works

Niccolò wrote four canzons, including the mystical canzone Color di Perla , and 75 sonnets, and put together a collection of contemporary poets from the circle of Fedeli d'Amore .
