Non-reductive materialism

In the philosophy of mind, various theoretical approaches are called non-reductive materialism , which represent two theses:

A) Mental states are not immaterial entities.
B) Mental states cannot be reduced to physical states.

Essentially, the following positions are viewed as non-reductive materialisms:

  1. The anomalous monism of Donald Davidson .
  2. Positions on emergence theory .
  3. Sometimes functionalism as well , whereby this intends to reduce mental states, but to functional states that should not be reducible to physical states due to the multiple realization .
