The Lower Saxony State Health Office ( NLGA ) is a central specialist authority of the State of Lower Saxony for communicable and non-communicable diseases and health risks to the population.

The Lower Saxony State Health Office is subordinate to the Lower Saxony Ministry for Social Affairs, Health and Equality . The legal basis is the Lower Saxony Public Health Service Act (NGöGD). The NLGA is part of the public health service in Lower Saxony together with the municipal health authorities / health authorities . history

The NLGA was founded on July 1, 1995 by a resolution of the Lower Saxony state government. The eight medical examination offices in Lower Saxony that existed at that time were dissolved or transferred to the state health office at the Hanover and Aurich locations. In 1997 the NLGA was realigned and restructured. Environmental medicine and epidemiology as well as advanced and advanced training were established as new priorities. In 2000, with the establishment of the Lower Saxony Epidemiological Cancer Register (EKN), the trust center was established in the NLGA. In 2006, the Center for Health and Infection Protection (ZGI) was set up as the central medical advice and coordination center in Lower Saxony for health crisis situations in the event of major damage and disasters with 24/7 availability.
