Niels Schmidt

Niels Schmidt (* 1960 in Wedel ) is a German politician ( independent ), administrative officer and mayor of Wedel.

Life

Schmidt was born in Wedel, his parents were operators of a gas station. After graduating from high school, which he passed in 1980 at the Johann-Rist-Gymnasium , and after completing his military service, he completed his studies with a degree in administrative management. He then worked in Wedel in the city administration.

In 2004 the non-party Schmidt, who politically classified himself as liberal-conservative, was elected mayor Wedels for the first time in direct election. He accounted for 50.1 percent of the votes cast, the other applicants for the office were Stephan Kohn and Peter Schmidt. In February 2010 he was elected with 84 percent of the votes (the opposing candidate was Wolfgang Bötel) for a second term and in February 2016 with 54.4 percent of the votes (the opposing candidate was Claudia Wittburg, who was also independent) for a third term.

Schmidt has a daughter and a stepson and is married to a second marriage.
