Kidney animals
Kidney animals are single-celled organisms and belong to the ciliate animals (paramecia). They are around 0.05 to 0.15 mm in size and live in heavily polluted waters. The species of two genera are called kidney animals in German:
- the species of the genus Colpidium , including Colpidium colpoda
- the only species of the genus Dexiostoma , see Dexiostoma campylum
They are not to be confused with kidney animals (Nephrozoa, Jondelius 2002), all animals that have kidneys as excretory organs.
