Nikolaus Newerkla

Nikolaus Philipp Newerkla (* 1974 in Horn, Lower Austria ) is an Austrian harpsichordist , pianist , arranger, songwriter and ensemble leader.

Newerkla studied music education and piano concert at the Graz University of Music with Eike Straub. Soon he also devoted himself - inspired by his long-time teacher, the organist and improviser Kurt Neuhauser - to historical keyboard instruments, especially the harpsichord. In addition to his work as an arranger, composer, pianist and singer from pop music to classical music, he leads a chamber music class at the Graz University of Music.

Nikolaus Newerkla is the founder and director of the early music ensemble Quadriga Consort , with whom he has performed at well-known festivals and concert promoters in many European countries and the USA. The ensemble soon specialized in popular early music from the British Isles, which Nikolaus Newerkla arranges for historical instruments. With the arrangement of numerous popular dance melodies and songs for original sound instruments, Nikolaus Newerkla has earned an international reputation as an arranger and editor.
