No poo

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

No Poo (short for No Shampoo) describes hair care without the use of conventional shampoos . The no poo trend started in the USA in 2014.

background

The starting point of the proponents of No Poo is that there is usually no medical need to wash your hair, but that hair care is shaped by cultural norms and personal preferences. With the advent of synthetic shampoos in the 1930s, this culture changed dramatically.

There is controversial debate as to whether it makes sense to completely avoid shampoos . So far, however, there are no independent scientific studies on this topic (as of November 2017). A basic consensus seems to be that washing your hair with shampoo every day is a strain on the scalp and hair.

A common argument in favor of no poo is that the use of shampoos pollutes the environment. Concerns have also been raised about problematic ingredients in shampoos that can affect the body or the environment. Although the ingredients are regulated by various laws and regulations, the changes in these laws and regulations show that such concerns cannot always be dismissed out of hand. So was z. For example, with effect from September 2017, the American FDA banned the addition of triclosan and other microbially active substances in shampoos and other consumer products.

application

The basic method of no poo is to rinse your hair and scalp regularly with warm water. It is recommended to comb the hair regularly with a soft brush (e.g. made of wild boar bristles) in order to distribute the scalp oil evenly in the hair.

Alternative approaches to No Poo suggest cleaning with natural agents such as baking soda, vinegar or rye flour.

However, people with scalp problems ( seborrheic dermatitis ) should seek medical advice before using No Poo.
