This part of the cemetery with its old trees and the horticultural design as well as three graves are under monument protection .

history

The catholic part of the north cemetery on Deegfelder Weg was created after the Nordhorn textile manufacturer and owner of Ludwig Povel & Co , Ludwig Povel, bequeathed the property to the catholic parish of St. Augustine in 1919 with the purpose of building a cemetery. In the years that followed, there was not only a crypt for the Povel family, but also elaborate graves for other Catholic textile manufacturers, especially the Dütting, Kistemaker and Rawe families . These graves are under monument protection. This original part of the cemetery is managed by the Catholic parish of St. Augustine.

In 1947/48, the north cemetery was given a 3.75 hectare urban cemetery section, which was built according to the plans of the Nordhorn city administration. In the 1980s, a second cemetery expansion and the creation of a parking lot took place.
